SUBSTATION CIVIL/STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Substation Civil/Structural Designer will be responsible for managing all required civil and structural designer duties for a substation project. The Substation Designer will develop foundation drawings, accurately calculate and coordinate the quantity, height, and weight of concrete, and develop inter-organizational and client relationship.

Responsibilities
  • Develop foundational drawings form a set of “GO BY” drawings, which includes the following:
    • Site plans
    • Finish grading plan
    • Foundation plan
    • Switchyard foundation details and steel details
    • Steel erection plan
    • Building foundation plan and details
    • Rebar schedule drawings
  • Calculate concrete quantities, steel heights and weights
  • Properly use processes, developed by Document Control, to manage the transportation and confidentiality of documents and information
  • Abid by quality control processes set out by Rising Edge
  • Represent Rising Edge when interfacing with vendors, team members, and clients as needed
  • Communicate with Engineering team in identifying and developing corrective solutions to problem encountered
Qualifications
  • Must have a Civil/Structural Technology Degree from an accredited College, Trade School, or University
  • Must have at least five (5) years of substation design experience and proven knowledge of substation engineering design (10 years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree)
  • Requires knowledge on substation physical design and how required components all fit together
  • Knowledgeable in creating civil drawings form the information provided by the civil engineer and/or client
  • Must have extensive knowledge and experience with CADD programs
    • AutoCAD a requirement
    • MicroStation an asset
  • Understanding of substation design processes, including drawings, calculations, quality checks, vendor drawings, specifications, bills of materials and document control
  • Ability to work in a technical engineering team environment would be an asset
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to be able to communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and clients
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work under a timeline or pressured situations
  • Travel may be required, but will be determined based on an ‘as needed’ basis
